Shirting – A Sustainable Fashion Project

Hello!
In the beginning of December I was lucky enough to be a part of an amazing project called Shirting and now it’s time that I share it with you guys! Shirting is a sustainable fashion project meant to remind us of the overproduction, overconsumption and underappreciation of clothes, the fact that most clothes we buy are exploitation of cheap and overseas production and are usually thrown away after approximately 6 months. What the project actually does is editions of universal unisex, one-size-fits-all shirts that are designed and produced locally. The shirts usually have some sort of a system to adjust the size in the form of zippers or buttons on the back, so anyone can wear them and the point is that the shirt never actually has an owner. Once the shirt is made and presented a wearer gets it, takes responsibility for it and wears it however often he or she likes and after 3 weeks it passes onto the next wearer. The shirt is always in circulation, that way it never has an owner only a wearer and travels the world randomly. Now the whole point is not in the actual shirt but in the idea that manifests within it, a movement that gives us another perspective on fashion and helps us put our ego aside to see the big picture. I was really stoked to get the chancae to be one of the wearers, the shirt that I had on was from the 5th edition from May 2015, but the project keeps on growing. The latest edition, the 8th that is, was introduced on the 2nd of December 2016 on the Pixxelpoint festival and circulated among the artist participating in the mentioned festival. It’s great to see projects like this and it feels even greater to be a part of them, to help remind people that fast and cheap fashion is not always a good call. In fact there are so many great designers around us that don’t even get the attention because of the flood of crappy chain stores with clothes that you wear 5 times and throw away. We should be more considerate about our fashion choices and try to buy stuff that we can wear for years to come or even take some inspiration from the shirting project and exchange the clothes that we got bored of with our friends or family. Just think about it for a second and it’ll all start to make sense. My opinion is that this is a groundbreaking project and I fully support it with all of the Sine Metu mentality.

Kar project dejansko počne, so edicije univerzalnih unisex, one-size-fits-all srajc , ki so oblikovanje in izdelane lokalno.
